Professor Masayuki Shimada
HIROSHIMA UNIVERSITY, JAPAN
Masayuki Shimada, Ph.D. is Professor at Laboratory of Reproductive Biology and the Vise Dean, Graduate School of Biosphere Science, Hiroshima University, Japan. In Dr Shimada’s laboratory, they focus on ovarian and testis functions, especially endocrine mechanisms in the tissues. They identified the expression of EGF like factors, Areg, Ereg, Btc and Nrg1 in granulosa cells and Leydig cells by LH and the essential roles to induce oocyte maturation and spermatogenesis. They are also interested in the mechanisms of sperm motility and fertilization. From the basic research, they try to develop and improve the reproductive technologies, such as cryopreservation and liquid storage of semen, artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization and sexing. He received his Ph.D. from Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, Yamaguchi University, Japan at 2003. He worked as Visiting Researcher at Baylor College of Medicine in U.S. from 2004 to 2005. After he came back to Japan, he worked in Hiroshima University as Associate Professor from 2006 to 2016, and then became Professor from 2017. Dr. Shimada is the author of more than 100 of peer-reviewed research papers and review articles, including Science, Development, Aging Cell, Endocrinology, etc., as well as Editorial Board members for several journals related to the reproductive biology field.
